As part of the market-leading Cisco IDS
Intrusion Detection System (IDS), the Cisco IDS 4200 sensors
provide pervasive protection against unauthorized or malicious
activity traversing the network, such as attacks by hackers. These
purpose-built, high-performance network security appliances, which
are inline ready, analyze traffic in real time, notifying management
console(s) with details of unauthorized activity.
The advanced protection capabilities of the Cisco IDS solution
are developed and maintained by the Cisco Countermeasures Research
Team (CRT). This team of elite security professionals is dedicated
to advancing countermeasures research to provide comprehensive
protection from both known and unknown cyber threats. Furthermore,
the Cisco patent-pending Threat Analysis Micro Engine (TAME)
technology lets users customize sensor signatures, resulting in
precisely tuned sensors that minimize the occurrence of false
positives.
When unauthorized activity is detected, the sensor can send
alarms to the management console(s) with details of the activity.
Additionally, the Cisco IDS Active Response System delivers
unparalleled protection by managing other systems--such as routers,
firewalls, and switches--to terminate unauthorized sessions. The
installation and management of these easily deployed appliances is
easy using a wide array of management solutions, including a Web
user interface, a command-line interface (CLI), or the highly
scalable CiscoWorks VPN/Security Management Solution (VMS).
The entire Cisco IDS 4200 Series Sensor portfolio delivers a
broad range of solutions that allow easy integration into many
different environments, including enterprise and service provider.
Each appliance sensor addresses bandwidth requirements at one of a
variety of performance marks, from 80 Mbps to 1 Gbps. Additionally,
a variety of interface options are supported, including the
provision of multiple sniffing interfaces and copper or fiber
interface options.
